Our William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway (and President – Joe) got a HUGELY warm reception last night from a area community action club, The Northwest United for Progress.  They held their monthly meeting at River of Life United Methodist church on Race Track Road and 86 members attended.  Joe was one of three presenters and gave a Power Point (attached) with follow-up Q&A.

30 individuals signed forms Joe passed around indicating they wanted to be members, wanted to be active especially in gardening and other projects along the highway, and wanted to receive regular news about the Scenic Highway. 86 brochures about the WBSHH were handed out (thanks Justin for bringing more last month!!)  And with Joe’s appeal for attendees to consider possible leadership roles in the Scenic Highway, 4 attendees checked the box that they had an interest in grant-writing, and several noted an interest in scout programs and ways for high school students to earn community service credits.  Several stated later that they lived along the Scenic Highway and wanted to be especially active in their area – Beluthahatchee, Rivertown, Orangedale, etc.

Club leader, Holly Ross of Julington Creek, offered the NWUP newsletter as a regular outlet for Scenic Highway news and invited Joe to submit updates, interest stories, and development news to her.  And while the clipboard circulating for signatures got 30 signatures, Holly said the club newsletter is emailed twice monthly to 135 members who will read about the Scenic Highway, will be connected via email, and can respond and volunteer based on timely news.

The BIG takeaway is that the NWUP leadership virtually wants to adopt the WBSHH as their own area mission, that members see this as THEIR Scenic Highway too, and that they are so thankful for the opportunity to work with the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway group.  It was a fantastic meeting with HUGE leadership and volunteer takeaway opportunities!!
